This is a new project we are developing for 2012. We have already started to work with a few local schools to develop it further. Here are the main aims of the Ocean Classroom.
- give children a greater understanding of their local marine environment
- inspire a sense of awe and wonder
- encourage environmental stewardship and leadership skills
- improve environmentally responsible behaviour
- give the children the opportunity of experiencing sailing and to have a go themselves
- visit the learning intentions set out in the Curriculum in a variety of areas.
The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.

It will be delivered by a series of lessons which we will lead at the school - our two senior staff are both qualified teachers. This will be followed by a boat trip that will revisit the areas of learning from the classroom while on the boat. The children will get to take the roles of marine biologists, boat crew / navigators and wildlife observers / recorders. A record of all the work done will be kept here online for the schools to download so it can be used for follow up work in all curriculum areas. There will also be an online resource base to help with this. |
As a company we are commiting sponsorship to this through hugely discounting the packages offered we are also seeking partner sponsors. The idea being that taking part in the Ocean Classroom costs the school nothing.
If you would like your school to be involved in this then please contact us - info@marinediscovery.co.uk
If your company is interested in sponsoring this project whether through sponsoring a specific school or offering a chunk of sponsorship to cover several schools then please get in touch - info@marinediscovery.co.uk
